The visit of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Azerbaijan has ended with the signing of the Declaration on allied relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan - the city of Shusha. It is symptomatic that the Turkish leader arrived in Baku directly from Brussels and British Cornwall where he held a number of meetings at the G7 Summit with both European leaders and US President Joe Biden who noted the positive outcomes. Thus, in Shusha, a stop was put not only to the 30- year long - and unprecedented by length and extent of devastation - conflict of the 20th century, but also, though indirectly, to the G8 economic summit. For the first time, Shusha is becoming the center of regional economic processes in all political and economic perspectives.
“The name of the Declaration indicates everything, it says it all. Today we have established a qualitatively new relationship, and all the provisions of this Declaration are a guarantee of our future cooperation”, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.
Aliyev noted that the Shusha Declaration on allied ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey refers to the historic Kars agreement signed 100 years ago.
“This also has a great symbolic meaning. The Joint Declaration on allied relations signed in the liberated city of Shusha after 100 years shows the direction of our future cooperation”, President of Azerbaijan said.
The declaration practically covers all areas. It demonstrates the importance of energy security and the Southern Gas Corridor for Turkey, Azerbaijan and Europe. In particular, Aliyev called the opening of new transport communications an important issue.
“Today, we are not only talking about the Zangazur corridor which will connect Turkey and Azerbaijan by rail and motor roads, we are creating this corridor through tangible work. It is important that this issue is rejected in the Joint Declaration on allied relations”, the head of state said.
“I have repeatedly said that Turkey and Azerbaijan today are the closest countries in the world. We have opportunities for developing our cooperation”, President of Azerbaijan added.
The “Musical heritage and Karabakh horses on the Jidir Duzu” composition organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was presented in Shusha on June 15.
