Azersu OJSC ensures stable supply of good quality water

The deliberate policy laid by the founder of independent Azerbaijan, National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is now followed successfully by President Ilham Aliyev. The dynamic development and the growing economic strength are instrumental to address social problems of people, including improvement of water supply and sewerage services.

According to the approved state programmes in Baku city, committed projects are in process in the Absheron peninsula and 38 towns and regional centres to reconstruct the drinking water and sewerage infrastructure. These projects are boosted by both state money and loans attracted from financial organisations.

Water intake and water treatment facilities, water reservoirs, water mains and network water pipelines, sewerage lines are being constructed within the frames of these projects, including works on installation of meters and construction of waste water treatment facilities.

A number of large projects of regional significance have been implemented in recent years to provide towns, regional centres, villages and settlements with stable water supply.

Using the capacity of Kura treatment facilities that supply the Absheron Peninsula with drinking water, the Shirvan-Mugan group of water pipelines has been built to improve water supply of the Aran region. It is currently supplying Hajigabul, Shirvan and Bilasuvar towns with good quality water. Subsequently, drinking water from this source will be supplied to Neftchala and Salyan towns as well as to more than 100 villages located along this route. Using the capacity of this source, the construction of Talysh-Sabirabad-Saatly water pipeline has been completed to improve water supply to Sabirabad and Saatly towns as well as 40 villages. Kulullu source has been created to improve water supply to the Shirvan district. It will provide water for 170,000 people of Ujar, Zardab, Kurdamir and Aghsu regions.

The Shamkirchay water reservoir, which is of special value for the western regions of the republic, has been commissioned recently with participation of the Head of State of Azerbaijan. It will contribute incredibly to provision of Ganja city as well as Shamkir and Samukh regions with drinking water. Khanbulan water reservoir has been chosen as a source of water supply for the southern regions. A treatment facility was constructed near the reservoir to supply Lankaran and Astara cities as well as 39 villages with drinking water. Construction of the Khanbulan-Lankaran water main is currently over. So, it ensured water supply to Lankaran city. At the same time preparatory work is being carried out to ensure water supply to Astara city and villages of the district.

Special projects are developed and implemented for residential areas located far from water sources, regional centres and water mains.  Water supply projects for 23 residential areas of Mugan, Massaly regions, and 17 residential areas of the Yardymly region, which are suffering from serious problems with provision of drinking water, are in process now. At the same time, urgent activities are performed to tackle problems with water supply to near-border and front-line residential areas. In general, the works performed over the last five years have resulted in improved water supply to 540,000 people. The level of stable water supply has been increased from 26% to 55%.

Ongoing projects in Baku city and in general on the Absheron Peninsula are carried out according to the master plan, which envisages management of water supply, sewerage systems and rain waters of settlements and settlements of the Absheron Peninsula. According to the master plan, over 6,000 km of drinking water pipelines, more than 7,000 km of sewerage lines, 140 km of tunnels, 65 reservoirs and 11 wastewater treatment facilities will have been either reconstructed or constructed till 2035.

Construction of the Jeyranbatan water purification unit with the ultrafilter is at the completion stage. It is the largest water supply-related project of this master plan. Water purified with the use of modern methods on this facility, with the capacity of 6 cubic meters per second, will contribute incredibly to drinking water supply for about one million people living in Baku cities and surrounding settlements. The Jeyranbatan-Balakhany-Ramany-Gala-Zirya water main as part of this project, which was constructed this year, is regarded as a reliable source of water supply to new residential areas and settlements without connection to the centralized network in the eastern part of the Absheron Peninsula.

Owing to capital works on modernization of the set of water reservoirs “69 East” and “110 East” playing an incredible role in supplying the eastern part of Baku city with drinking water, the most part of Nizami, Khatai, Surakhany and Sabunchu districts now take advantage of stable water supply. As a result of works carried out as part of the State Program of Social and Economic Development of Baku city and its suburbs, for the first time more than 250,000 people on the Absheron Peninsula have been provided with a centralized drinking water supply. The amount of people stably supplied with drinking water has reached 78.3%.

Use of clean and qualitative water is one of the major global challenges. A new central laboratory was created, which has a potential to choose water sources, fully control the water consumed by the population, make analyses in any area and conditions.

New commitments and challenges, aimed at enhancement of drinkable water supply to consumers and provision of sewage services, are waiting for Azersu OJSC in future.  The staff of Azersu OJSC intends to maximally use created opportunities for timely and proper fulfillment of President Ilham Aliyev’s orders and will make all efforts to raise the welfare of the Azerbaijan Republic citizens.

Within 9 months of 2014 Birləşmiş Sukanal LLC increased the volume of water withdrawal from sources by 8.6% and water supply to consumers by 5.6% in order to ensure uninterrupted water supply of the population in 280 cities, villages and settlements.

110km long water supply lines and 2.2km long sewage lines were built and thoroughly repaired in 32 districts in order to improve uninterrupted water supply to the population.

Within the state program of social-economic development of the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan a subartesian well was drilled, 2 water reservoirs were built and 4.5km long water lines were laid in Alibeyli village of Tovuz region of Azerbaijan, located opposite the enemy. As the result, 5800 residents of Alibeyli village are supplied with qualitative drinkable water now.

A 9.9km long water main was laid in Massally region in order to supply water to 23 villages of Muganly. 2 water reservoirs have been built and construction of a 14km long water main has been completed for supplying drinkable water to villages of Yardimly region.

Apart from this, projects were implemented in Gachrash village of Guba, Bala Kangarli village of Terter, Yaghlikend village of Fizuli, Shanlik village of Aghjabedi, which promoted improvement of water supply of over 7,000 people.
