We are clearly better off  in working together rather than retreating in our national shells

Caspian Energy (CE): Ms. Harms, the last year featured a number of important events in the EU’s governance structure. How successful was the “green” policy of the Greens in 2014? Which offers with regard to energy policy will the Greens initiate in 2015?

Rebecca Harms, Co-President of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance in the European Parliament: For us Greens, European Energy Union will be the future project of the European Union. It is the vehicle for promoting a European ‘energy transition’. The Greens have long pushed for this and believe it is in the interest of Europe and its citizens to ensure this union moves us towards an economy powered by home-grown safe and sustainable energy. This would help revitalise our economy and create jobs, reduce our damaging dependence on unreliable fossil fuel exporting countries, and help us meet our climate change goals. Directly linked to this is the UN climate summit in Paris (COP21) that will take place in December 2015. If the world is to have any chance of halting dangerous climate change, we need to conclude an ambitious, binding global agreement in Paris.
