Baku center for climate and peace action holds event in Belém

The annual high-level dialogue of the Baku Center for Climate and Peace Action (Baku Center), a leading COP29 initiative, took place during COP30 in Belém, Brazil. The dialogue was jointly organized by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

During the event, Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation were signed between the Baku Center and the Ministry of Environment, Biodiversity and Climate of Guinea-Bissau, as well as the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Natural Resources of The Gambia, to establish joint working groups for the first pilot projects.

Speaking at the opening, COP29 Chair Mukhtar Babaev noted that the Baku Center, established during COP29, laid the foundation for a new stage of cooperation in addressing climate change, peace, and stability. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiev expressed hope that the Center will play a significant role in implementing another important national initiative — the “Baku to Belém Roadmap.”

Green Climate Fund Executive Director Ms. Mafalda Duarte expressed her full support for the Baku Center and emphasized that this initiative has become an important international mechanism linking climate finance to results in peace and sustainable development.
