According to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) study “Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation in Central Asia”, the region will need $29.2 billion between 2025 and 2030 to finance water and climate infrastructure, as reported by asiaplustj.info.
As of now, only $12.068 billion of the total $29.2 billion required is secured, covering approximately 41.3% of the necessary funding.
Uzbekistan currently has the highest level of funding, followed by Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
More than $2 billion per year will be needed to upgrade the region’s water supply systems. The largest share of investments is expected to go to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, whose annual needs exceed $800 million. Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan also require substantial investments, especially in light of long-term climate challenges.
