Kazakhstan to build a solar power plant

JSC “Samruk-Energo,” in partnership with the Chinese company Energy China, has begun the construction of a 300-megawatt solar power plant with an energy storage system in the Turkestan region.

As part of the ceremonial event, a time capsule was laid to symbolize the beginning of the future power plant’s construction. According to Samruk-Energo, this is one of the company’s key projects in the field of renewable energy, aimed at modernizing the national energy sector and improving the reliability of power supply in the southern regions of the country. As of the third quarter of 2025, the share of net generation in Kazakhstan exceeded 7 percent of the country’s total electricity production. The total number of renewable energy facilities in the country has reached 159 stations. This year, projects with a total installed capacity of 266 megawatts have been implemented. New wind power plants have been commissioned in the Karaganda and Ulytau regions, while solar power plants have started operating in the Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions, already contributing to the country’s energy system.
