The Emperor of Japan expresses concern over the Caspian Sea situation

Yesterday, during a meeting with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan addressed the situation regarding water resources in the Caspian Sea. 

During the meeting, President Tokayev noted, “Your Majesty possesses profound knowledge in the field of water resources,” while the Emperor offered his condolences over the damage caused by flooding in Kazakhstan last April. The Emperor also mentioned the decreasing water level in the Caspian Sea, saying, “I have heard that the water issue is serious, both in terms of flooding and water scarcity.”

The topic of water was also raised during the luncheon, and the Emperor expressed his belief that “the water problem requires joint efforts by many people.” The lunch, attended by Prince Akishino, lasted about an hour in a relaxed atmosphere.
