Noticeable warming in the Arctic has been observed since the early 1990s, and air temperatures continue to rise. According to the Arctic and Antarctic Institute, in 2020, winters became more than 4°C warmer, and summers — by 2°C. Warming is even more pronounced in the Northern Sea Route regions, reaching up to +6°C in winter and nearly +3°C in summer. After a temporary drop in temperature, an upward trend resumed in 2024, which, according to scientists at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), may continue until 2027. According to experts from the institute, despite the warming, the Arctic will not become completely ice-free. From 1996 to 2010, the area of summer ice shrank eightfold. In the following years, it fluctuated around that level. It should be noted that just recently, Türkiye recorded a European summer temperature record of 50.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 48.9 degrees Celsius observed in Sicily in 2020.
