At the 69th IAEA General Conference, held on 15–19 September in Vienna, the Tajikistan delegation highlighted the need to continue rehabilitation of uranium tailings left from past uranium production in the country.

In his address, Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Aziz Nazar, summarized the completed rehabilitation work, outlined existing challenges, and stressed the importance of further measures under the IAEA Strategic Master Plan for the rehabilitation of radioactive waste tailings.

He also highlighted Tajikistan’s close cooperation with the IAEA, noting joint projects in the peaceful use of nuclear technologies, healthcare, environmental protection, and glacier conservation.
