Indonesia and the European Union today have signed a free trade agreement in Bali, following lengthy negotiations that accelerated after the United States raised its customs tariffs.

The agreement, initialed by Indonesia’s Minister of Economy Airlangga Hartarto and European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič of Slovakia, is expected to boost trade between the 27 EU member states and Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
