bp chief holds talks in Baku

On June 19, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Chief Executive Officer of bp, Murray Auchincloss.

During the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the long-standing successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and bp.

Prospects for future cooperation between SOCAR and bp were also discussed during the meeting. In early June, bp acquired interests in two offshore exploration and development blocks located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

These include the adjacent and previously discovered fields recommended for unitization by foreign consortia in the 1990s: the "Karabakh" field, and the "Dan-Ulduzu, Ashrafi, Aypara" fields, which are located 120 kilometers east of Baku and 20–25 kilometers from the "Gunashli" field, at depths of 150–200 meters. To develop these fields, a Risk Service Agreement was signed in 2018. bp acquired a 35% stake in each of the two agreements — the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) and the Risk Service Agreement (RSA) — from SOCAR. SOCAR retains the remaining 65% interest in both agreements. bp will serve as the operator under both agreements.
