According to AZERTAC, citing the press service of JSC QazaqGaz MŞ, the Turkmen side at the meeting was represented by Vice Prime Minister Batyr Amanov and Presidential Advisor on Oil and Gas Issues Ashirgulu Begliyev. The meeting discussed the possible participation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the development of Turkmenistan’s largest gas field, Galkynysh, with the involvement of a foreign investor.
The development of the Galkynysh gas field began in 2013. Its reserves, combined with those of the Yashlar and Garaköl fields, are estimated at nearly 27 trillion cubic meters. Following the discovery of this giant hydrocarbon deposit, Turkmenistan confidently ranks fourth in the world in natural gas reserves.
Galkynysh serves as the main source for the Central Asia-China (CAC) gas pipeline, with production exceeding 35 billion cubic meters in 2022.
The development plan includes seven stages of exploitation. Currently, the first stage of field development is in pilot commercial operation.
Complex geological structure: The uniqueness of the Galkynysh field lies not only in its enormous reserves and large area but also in the fact that the average gas-bearing layer is more than 700 meters thick, with a depth exceeding 5,000 meters.
The gas contains about 10% acidic components.
Number of wells: The current operating stock of production wells is 52 units. More than 10 wells are actively being drilled.
High well productivity: The average projected gas flow rate is 1.5 million cubic meters per day, while the reservoir’s potential allows wells to be operated for extended periods at flow rates exceeding 2 million cubic meters per day. Three wells with an original design provide a gas flow rate of about 3 million cubic meters per day.
Long operational lifespan: According to forecasts made jointly with GaffneyCline, the period of continuous gas production for each development stage will exceed 30 years.
Production potential: Annual gas production is planned to reach nearly 200 billion cubic meters.
This summer, a new industrial flow of natural gas with a daily production rate of 2.24 million cubic meters was achieved at Galkynysh, according to the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan.
Well No. 264, over 4,000 meters deep, was drilled by Türkmengazburawlaýyş on behalf of Marygazçykaryş as part of the field development by the state concern Turkmengaz. The productive horizon was encountered at depths between 3,852 and 4,011 meters.
