A new, highly promising and peace-oriented format of cooperation is emerging in our region.

According to AZERTAC, President Ilham Aliyev said this in a press statement following a high-level meeting between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. The head of state called this day historic. 

The President of Azerbaijan will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will be held in Tianjin (Northern China) on August 31 – September 1, the Assistant to the Chinese Foreign Minister (at the rank of Deputy Minister), Liu Bin, reported.

He noted that the event will be attended by heads of state and government from more than 20 countries and 10 international organizations, TASS reports.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with the leaders of over 20 foreign countries and 10 international organizations on the banks of the Haihe River to summarize the SCO’s successful experiences, promote its development and restructuring, and unite its members for cooperation and joint work,” the diplomat said.

He specified that the summit will also be attended by: the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet, the President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu, the Prime Minister of Nepal Sharma Oli, the President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Prime Minister of Egypt Mostafa Madbouly, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, the President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, and the Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh.

The heads of international organizations and multilateral mechanisms, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, have been invited to the event.

Как сообщает АЗЕРТАДЖ, об этом сказал Президент Ильхам Алиев в заявлении для прессы по итогам встречи высокого уровня между Туркменистаном, Азербайджаном и Узбекистаном.  Глава государства назвал этот день историческим.

Президент Азербайджана примет участие в саммите Шанхайской организации сотрудничества (ШОС), который пройдет в городе Тяньцзинь (Северный Китай) 31 августа - 1 сентября, сообщил помощник главы МИД КНР (в ранге замминистра) Лю Бинь. Он отметил, что в мероприятии примут участие главы государств и правительств более чем 20 стран и 10 международных организаций, передает ТАСС.

«Председатель КНР Си Цзиньпин соберется с главами более чем 20 зарубежных стран и 10 международных организаций на берегах реки Хайхэ, чтобы обобщить успешный опыт деятельности ШОС, содействовать ее развитию и реструктуризации, объединить ее участников для сотрудничества и совместной работы», - отметил дипломат.

At the event, which will take place in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza,” issues of developing and deepening multilateral cooperation will be discussed, primarily in the trade and economic, transport and communications, energy, and humanitarian sectors. The signing of several joint documents is planned. The head of state will also hold bilateral negotiations on the sidelines of the summit, the press service of Mirziyoyev reports.

In January–June 2025, the volume of trade between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan reached $140.2 million. Exports from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan for the first six months of the year amounted to $30.3 million, while imports from Turkmenistan totaled $109.8 million. In the first half of 2025, Azerbaijan imported 187 million cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan, valued at $28 million. Compared to the same period in 2024, the volume of supplies decreased by 116 million cubic meters (or 38.3%), and the value fell by $17.4 million (or 38.2%). In 2024, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan amounted to $383.9 million, with Turkmenistan’s exports to Azerbaijan reaching $303.47 million and imports from Azerbaijan totaling $80.24 million. According to APA, Azerbaijan Culture Days will be held in Turkmenistan in April next year.

Об этом сообщается на официальном сайте Президента АР. в это же день состоялась встреча Президента Ильхама Алиева с Председателем Халк Маслахаты Туркменистана Гурбангулы Бердымухамедовым в расширенном составе. 22 августа президент Узбекистана Шавкат Мирзиёев по приглашению председателя Халк Маслахаты Туркменистана Гурбангулы Бердымухамедова посетит эту страну с рабочим визитом для участия в трехстороннем саммите в формате «Азербайджан – Туркменистан – Узбекистан».

На мероприятии, которое пройдет в Национальной туристической зоне «Аваза», будут рассмотрены вопросы развития и углубления многостороннего сотрудничества, прежде всего в торгово-экономической, транспортно-коммуникационной, энергетической и гуманитарной сферах. Предусматривается подписание ряда совместных документов. Глава государства также проведет двусторонние переговоры на полях саммита, сообщает пресс-служба Мирзиёева.

On the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in London, the price of Brent crude for October futures rose by 0.52% to $67.19 per barrel.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), the price of WTI crude for September delivery also increased — up 0.59% to $63.08 per barrel. 

On global markets, the price of Azeri Light crude (CIF) also climbed.

The price of Azerbaijani oil per barrel rose by 0.05%, reaching $73.30. It is noted that earlier the price of a barrel of Azeri Light was $68.34. In Azerbaijan’s state budget for 2025, the average price of this grade of oil is set at $70 per barrel.

This time, the markets reacted to a statement by President Donald Trump, who threatened to halt new wind and solar energy projects, saying in a social media post that they drive up electricity prices everywhere they are implemented. “Any State that has built and relied on windmills and solar for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS. We will not approve wind or farmer destroying Solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA!!! MAGA,”  - Trump wrote on Truth Social. 

It is worth noting that the United States is not only the world’s largest oil producer but also an industrially developed oil consumer (18.9 million barrels per day).

The United States produces 21.91 million barrels per day, accounting for 22% of global production;

Saudi Arabia — 11.13 million barrels per day, 11% of global production; Russia — 10.75 million barrels per day, 11% of global production; Canada — 5.76 million barrels per day, 6% of global production;

China — 5.26 million barrels per day, 5% of global production; Iraq — 4.42 million barrels per day, 4% of global production; Brazil — 4.28 million barrels per day, 4% of global production; United Arab Emirates — 4.16 million barrels per day, 4% of global production; Iran — 3.99 million barrels per day, 4% of global production; Kuwait — 2.91 million barrels per day, 3% of global production.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently attempted to temper hopes for a recovery in the oil market by publishing a bearish monthly report, noting for the third consecutive month a slowdown in demand growth for 2025–2026. The IEA expects that average oil demand growth will reach 680,000 barrels per day in 2025 and 700,000 barrels per day in 2026. The Paris-based organization also noted that “observed” oil stocks reached a 46-month high of 7.8 billion barrels in June, even though OECD inventories were approaching a ten-year low of just 2.8 billion barrels.

Recently, OPEC raised its estimate for global oil demand growth in 2026 to 1.38 million barrels per day, citing stronger economic performance in key regions. By 2026, global oil consumption is expected to average 106.52 million barrels per day, which is 100,000 barrels per day higher than last month’s estimate.

On August 21, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, participated in the opening of the honey, bees, and beekeeping products store “Balland-Kelbajar.” The Head of State also laid the foundation of the Kelbajar City Park. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva took part in the foundation-laying ceremony for the fourth residential complex in Kelbajar. They also reviewed the progress of works on the Toganali-Kelbajar-Istisu highway.

According to AZERTAC, yesterday the Head of State conducted the technical opening of the Murovdag Tunnel, built at the 13.5-kilometer mark of this road and stretching 11.7 kilometers. This represents another important step in the development of Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry. In the city of Ganja, LLC “Azerbasalt” has begun construction of a basalt products factory. At the initial stage, the enterprise will produce basalt powder and organic fertilizers based on it.

According to AZERTAC’s regional correspondent, the project will be implemented in two phases. The investment cost of the first phase amounts to 27 million manats. The share of the Azerbaijan Entrepreneurship Development Fund, subordinate to the Ministry of Economy, in the project is 30 percent.

At the factory, which covers a total area of 4 hectares, it is planned to produce 360,000 tons of organic fertilizers per year. At this stage, the project is expected to provide permanent jobs for 200 people.

The main raw material for the enterprise, which will be established based on Swedish and Turkish technologies, will be high-quality basalt extracted from the “Chaykend” deposit in the Goygol district.

The second phase of the project envisions the production of high-tech basalt-based products—basalt fiber, filament (raw material for 3D printers), and other industrial materials. Implementation of this phase will create an additional 300 jobs. The products will be sold both on the domestic and international markets.

Basalt products are considered an environmentally friendly, durable, and multifunctional material for agriculture and industry. Volcanic basalt powder restores the nutrient balance of soil, increases crop yields, and at the same time prevents waterbody acidification. Basalt fibers are heat- and corrosion-resistant, eco-friendly, and are widely used in the defense industry, aviation, automotive engineering, and construction.
